April 2, 2008 - MatchDrill Spinner Backplate

I wanted to get started on the dreaded "fitting of the cowl".  But first, you need to mount the prop.  And before that, you need to put together the the spinner bulkhead.  The spinner backplate will have a doubler ring riveted to the back of it.

The first step was to match-drill the spinner backplate, using the pre-drilled doubler ring as a template.  I used some AN-7 boltsthat came with the Kitfox project to align the two pieces together.

You know the routine:  drill and cleco, drill and cleco.  Unfortunately, because I have a constant speed prop, I'm going to have to cut out the interior of the spinner bulkhead so it matches the doubler ring.  That's going to be a whole lot of fun.  Not.

Deburred, edge-smoothed, scotch-brited ...
